You’re grieving something that hasn’t happened yet. And no one around you seems to understand that. Anticipatory grief is real. It lives in the space between the diagnosis and whatever comes next — and it can be one of the loneliest places to stand. Rising Sails offers telehealth anticipatory grief therapy in Maryland for adults who are ready to stop carrying this alone.
What brings people here
This kind of grief doesn’t wait for loss.
Maybe you’ve received a serious diagnosis and you don’t recognize yourself anymore. Maybe you’re watching someone you love change, and you’re grieving them while they’re still here. Maybe you’re functioning — showing up, getting things done — but privately, something inside you is breaking.
Anticipatory grief asks you to hold fear and love at the same time. That’s not a sign of weakness. It’s one of the hardest things a person can do.
This work isn’t about fixing grief or moving through it faster. It’s about learning to carry it in a way that doesn’t cost you everything — and finding what’s still possible even now.
Who this is for.
You might be in the right place if…
You received a serious diagnosis
Your own or someone you love. The fear of what’s coming is changing how you live right now.
You’re a caregiver
You’re showing up for someone every day while quietly grieving them. There’s no room in that role for what you’re actually feeling.
You’re holding it together — barely
On the outside, you look fine. On the inside, you’re exhausted by what you’re carrying in silence.
